HPCL fire probe underway

“An investigation has been initiated to ascertain the cause of the incident and to undertake necessary remedial measures. The financial and operational impact, if any, is being assessed and Prima facie is not expected to be material,” HPCL noted in an exchange filing.
The fire occurred on April 20, 2026, around 1:55 PM in the CDU section, caused by a hydrocarbon leakage from a valve/flange in the heat exchanger circuit.
Advt The incident led to postponement of the refinery's scheduled inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 21, 2026.
After this incident the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, in a X post said, “Due to an unfortunate fire incident today in the vicinity of the CDU at the HRRL refinery, the scheduled dedication of the refinery by the Hon’ble Prime Minister on 21.04.2026 has been postponed.”
“An investigation has been initiated to ascertain the cause(s) of the incident and to undertake necessary remedial measures,” the ministry further noted.
As per HPCL filing, the fire was promptly brought under control by the emergency response team of HRRL. There is no loss of life or injury to any personnel.
“The fire was localized in the heat exchangers stack. CDU, Vacuum Distillation Unit (VDU) and all other Units of the CDU section were quickly isolated. All are structurally safe and unaffected. No other section of the refinery has suffered any impact,” HPCL noted.
This disclosure fulfills SEBI (LODR) Regulation 30 requirements for material events affecting operations.
“The financial and operational impact, if any, is being assessed and Prima facie is not expected to be material,” said HPCL.
